CANNABIS INFUSED TEA (TISANE)

THÉ INFUSÉ AU CANNABIS

Abba Medix

Apart from the classic cannabis brownie, cannabis tea infusions have been one of the most popular edible forms of consumption taking us years back. Today on the medical market, you can access infused tea sachets or The Green Organic Dutchman’s tasteless ripple powders, but if you are a tea fanatic, you may be looking for more options. Tea itself brings many therapeutic benefits from reducing inflammation, anxiety, and stress to reducing bloating and more. The possibilities are endless with infused teas when you have the proper knowledge on how to fine tune the recipe, so it works best for you.

There are two important factors to making your own infused cannabis tea a full spectrum success: decarboxylation and absorption.

Ensuring your product is decarboxylated is an important factor in your infusion. This ensures you have activated the THC and CBD from the raw plant form to achieve the effects that you are looking for. It is important to understand, the heat from your boiling water will not convert raw cannabis to decarboxylated form.

Cannabis is not water soluble; it must be incorporated with a fat to optimize the absorption of the cannabinoids. There are many ways to incorporate your fat into the mix. Making a tea latte is a great way to mask the flavour of the fat and keeping your tea consistency. Or you can keep it simple and add cream or coconut milk to your tea once the infusion of herbs, spices and cannabis is complete. Others may choose to incorporate their cannabis oils or butter directly into the tea, this can cause an oil to water separation at the top of your beverage. You may prefer to not make your infused tea with a fat for reduced psychoactive effects, you will still achieve some level of therapeutic effect regardless. There is no right or wrong way, teas are always forgiving, and you can fine tune with every cup.

Herbs and spices to consider adding to your tea may include dried sage, rosemary, peppermint, camomile, cardamon, cinnamon, clove, lavender, dandelion root, raspberry leaf, lemongrass, lemon balm, hibiscus, ginger, turmeric, fennel dehydrated slices of citrus fruit, dehydrated apples, peaches, strawberries, or other berries.

Making your tisane

First pick your base ingredient depending on the health benefits you are looking for, then add the complimentary ingredients to create the flavor profile you desire. Keep in mind when selecting your blend, that each of the above listed ingredients come with their own terpenes that amp up the medicinal benefits of your tea.

Select the herbs and spices combo that works for you, add your decarboxylated cannabis leaves and buds, break them up into small pieces and mix them together. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place and add them into empty tea sachets or metal tea infuser before steeping in your boiled water. Steep your tea for a few minutes, then add your cream, coconut milk or top with frothed almond creamer to turn your tea into a dairy-free latte!

*Any leftover shake or stems can be interchanged for leaves and bud.
